Floreat Access Programme

Floreat: A Balliol College Access Programme for Year 12 Students

Floreat is a year-long academic programme offered to Year 12 students from state schools across two geographical regions – Hertfordshire and London. The programme offers the opportunity to engage with Oxford-style teaching in the humanities, and is offered to students free of charge.

The bulk of the academic content is delivered through a series of academic seminars, led by Oxford University representatives and hosted after school hours. The programme also includes a residential summer school in Oxford.

This opportunity suits bright students who are interested in studying a broad arts/humanities programme at a top university (not necessarily Oxford); and who are keen to engage with academic ideas outside their school curriculum, ahead of applying to university the following year.

Please see below to learn more about Floreat in your region (Hertfordshire or London), and/ or to apply for the programme.

If you have any questions about our Floreat programmes, or need help with an application, please email outreach@balliol.ox.ac.uk

Hertfordshire

The programme has run successfully for the previous two academic years with an average of 25 students taken each year from over 10 Hertfordshire schools. The programme is running again in Hertfordshire (though in a condensed form), and applications are open to any Year 12 student at a state school in Hertfordshire.

There was a public information evening for the Hertfordshire programme at Roundwood Park School in Harpenden, on Tuesday 7th March 2017, 6:30 - 8:00 pm. You can find our launch poster here and the presentation that was delivered here. Within the presentation you can find the timetable for the Hertfordshire programme; whilst students may apply if there are dates they are unavailable preference will be given to students who can attend the whole programme.

Our Floreat: London programme is open to any Year 12 student at a state school in Southwark as well as the following two schools: The City of London Academy (Islington), The City of London Academy (Hackney).
