University of Essex Economics Taster Event

Type: Seminars / lectures / masterclasses, University open days, University taster courses

Duration: 21 March 2016 - 21 March 2016

Throughout the year we hold a series of exciting taster events for students studying at sixth form and college level. These events will give you an in depth experience of studying a subject at university, as well as providing opportunity to speak with current staff and students.

21 March 2016, 9.30am-2.00pm - Colchester Campus

Economics is all around us and all we do has an economic explanation. From the financial crisis and unemployment to immigration and global warming, all are key to the economist's thinking. At this event students will learn from our academic staff on topics they are currently researching which have been hitting headlines and will be able to hear from our current students who can tell them what university life is really like. We hope the students who attend will come away with a better understanding of some of the exciting things going on in Economics at Essex.

Students do not need to be studying A-level economics to attend, just have a healthy interest in the world around them.

Kings Langley School - Application Form for Global Social Leaders

Global Social Leaders is a residential course run in the summer holidays, by Future
Foundations, to develop leadership skills in young people.  The attendees return to Kings
Langley, having attended the training, to implement and lead a social action project with the

The cost of the course is £1595, of which the school is offering to pay £1000, leaving the
student's total contribution as £595, which can be raised personally, by fundraising, or a
combination of the two.  Cost should not be a barrier and the sixth form team are
happy to help students in co-ordinating their fundraising efforts.

There are no additional requirements, other than a willingness to learn, grow and develop,
be adventurous and be prepared to implement leadership skills back in the school afterwards.
