Welcome to the Nuffield Research Placements Platform

Nuffield Research Placements (previously Nuffield Science Bursaries) provide over 1,000 students each year with the opportunity to work alongside professional scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians.

We are delighted to inform you that the application system for the Nuffield Research Placement Scheme 2017 is now open and we would like you to encourage year 12 students to apply. Students in the first year of a post-16 science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) course are eligible to apply.

The Nuffield Research Placement Scheme can offer your Year 12 students exciting placements in industry and at local organisations.  Undertaking a 4 week placement will inspire and motivate students and help give them the skills and confidence they need to get a place at a top university.

The experience can be particularly valuable to students who don’t have a family history of going to university, or who come from low income families.  We want more students from these backgrounds to apply, and can offer them financial support of £80 per week during their placement.

Placements

Students in the first year of a post-16 science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) course are eligible to apply. Placements are available across the UK, in universities, commercial companies, voluntary organisations and research institutions.

Nuffield Research Placements are administered at a regional level by a network of Nuffield coordinators.

We particularly encourage students who don't have a family history of going to university or who attend schools in less well-off areas. We make sure no-one is excluded on a financial basis by covering students' travel costs. Some students may also be eligible for a weekly bursary in addition to travel expenses. Your regional coordinator will be able to advise on eligibility.

UCL Year 12 Gateways Conferences 2017 Reminder: application deadline 25 January 2017     Gateways Conferences are designed to give a taste of what studying at university is like, as well as encourage deeper insight into an interesting and current topic.  Free Summer School at the University of Oxford

 UNIQ is a programme of free summer schools at Oxford University. We are the University of Oxford's ONLY official summer school programme for students studying in their first year of further education.
 

UNIQ is open to students studying in their first year of further education and who are based at UK state schools/colleges. Students apply for a specific course that aims to give them a realistic view of Oxford student life. UNIQ participants live in Oxford college/annexe for one week in the summer. They attend lectures and seminars in their chosen subject, and workshops about applying to Oxford.  Participants also take part in a variety of social activities in the evenings.

 

The summer school is academically intensive and challenging but it is also a lot of fun.  It is free of charge and includes accommodation, food and travel expenses.  If you think you may be interested in applying please see Mrs Jenkins in the 6^th Form Office.  Applications close on 24^th January

Applicants in 2016 were asked to provide:

• At least six GCSE/National 5 (or equivalent) grades
• A personal statement detailing interest in their chosen course and motivation to attend UNIQ
• School Information (Current state school and past school)
• A-level (or equivalent) courses
• Teacher referee contact details

 

Engineering Experience 2017

11th and 12th April 2017

The two day, large scale residential gives Year 12 students the opportunity to visit up to four of our engineering departments to experience studying this subject area at undergraduate level. In addition to this, students will be provided with all meals and an overnight stay in a Loughborough University hall of residence.

The day will include:

• Dates: 11th and 12th April 2017.
• The event is for year 12 students.
• Interested students are invited to complete an application form
• Offers of places on the residential will then be made based on the information received within the application form (not on a first come first served basis)
• The deadline for receiving applications is 12:00 midnight on 20th January 2017.
• The cost of the event is £55 per student* (to cover meals and accommodation).
